Don’t Forget How It Feels
We should never forget how it feels.
To be constantly refreshing your inbox.
Hoping for a reply.
Waking up each day thinking, maybe today’s the day.
The endless interviews.
The silence.
The delays.
The ones who never come back to you at all.
The self-doubt creeping in while you try to stay upbeat.
If you’ve been job hunting recently, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.
The market’s been brutal.
And it has exposed a lot of broken recruitment processes.
So here’s my ask:
If you’ve made it through to the other side, into a new role, don’t forget how it felt.
Use that experience.
Do what you can to make things better for the next person.
We all talk about candidate experience.
We all talk about employer brand.
That’s great.
But start with the basics.
When you’re hiring:
- Stop and think before you start.
- Decide who really needs to be involved.
- Create a clear process.
- Build a timetable, and stick to it.
Things come up. That’s life.
But don’t drag people through six stages when three would do.
Be thorough.
But respect people’s time.
Just remember how it felt.
None of this is complicated.
You just have to decide that you care.
Thank You
