How to Use Loom to Support Your Job Applications
I’ve mentioned Loom in a few videos before, and recently I’ve had people ask:
How exactly would you use it to help with a job search?
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach.
The best advice?
Don’t be afraid to experiment.
Try things out. See what feels right.
Loom is great because it’s easy to use and doesn’t require you to become a full-on content creator.
You can get a free trial, play around with it, and decide if it’s worth keeping.
If I were job hunting today, here’s how I’d use it.
Talk Through Your CV
Start by opening your CV on your screen and recording a short video where you:
- Walk through the key points
- Highlight a few achievements
- Explain any job changes or career gaps
Don’t overthink it.
You’re not making a documentary, just bringing the paper to life.
This gives the recruiter or hiring manager a sense of your communication style and energy.
It’s also an opportunity to clarify any details that might have been overlooked on the page.
Talk Through a Job Description
Next, take a job advert or job description and hit record.
Talk through:
- What they’re asking for
- How does your experience match
- Why you’re interested
Think of it like a voice-over cover letter.
Again, keep it short.
Just hit the key points and let them hear your voice and thought process.
Why bother?
Because right now, it’s competitive.
And standing out isn’t about shouting louder, it’s about being more relevant, more human.
A short video can help your application feel more personal.
You can add the Loom link to:
- Your cover letter
- Follow-up messages
- LinkedIn connection requests
Will it guarantee a job? No.
But it might give you the edge in a tight race.
It’s fine margins at the moment, and so these things are worth a try!
