Monday Motivation: 5 Things To Do This Week To Help Your Job Search
If you’ve had anything to do with the job market lately, you’ll know it’s tough.
And when you’re in the thick of it, the last thing you want to hear is:
“Keep positive.”
“Have you tried this?”
Because let’s be honest: you don’t feel positive.
And yes, you’ve probably tried that already.
Here’s the thing, though:
The market is brutal right now.
Therefore, taking care of yourself matters more than ever.
You also need to be more strategic and persistent than usual.
A lot of advice flying around right now comes from people who haven’t experienced a market like this.
They mean well.
But it doesn’t always land.
That said, there are things you can do this week to stay in the game.
Here are five suggestions, plus a little bonus tip:
Get up and get outside
Not trying to be a mindfulness guru here, but morning sunlight helps.
Even a short walk can clear your head.
Got decent weather this week?
Use it.
Think about your search while moving.
Let fresh ideas come in.
Reconnect with ex-colleagues
Set a goal: one or two check-ins this week.
Nothing pushy, just let people know you’re looking.
If they’ve worked with you before and rate you (and they probably do), they’ll keep you in mind.
You don’t need dozens of leads.
Just one good one.
Schedule time for you
Don’t burn yourself out.
Even if money’s tight, pick something small to look forward to.
Coffee in the park.
A swim.
A cinema trip.
Your job search energy is linked to your general energy.
Protect it.
Make new connections
Set a daily target: five new people who might be relevant to your goals.
Tailor your messages.
Keep it light.
Think: “Here’s someone I might be able to help. Let’s connect.”
You’re not begging for a job, you’re showing up.
That’s powerful.
Review and tweak
Take a proper look at your CV, LinkedIn profile, and approach.
Are you telling your story clearly?
Would someone hiring quickly understand the problems you solve?
Ask a few people you trust to review your CV or profile.
By all means, send it my way, I’ll happily have a look.
You don’t need to follow every bit of feedback, but listen for patterns.
Bonus tip: Try something different
What could you do this week that’s just a bit different?
Maybe a short video on Loom talking through your CV.
Or a LinkedIn post sharing an experience that shaped how you work.
You don’t need to become a content machine, just try one new thing.
You never know what might spark a conversation.
And it’s conversations that lead to job offers.
One final thing:
None of this is about your worth or skills.
You’re still great at what you do.
It’s just a tough market, and that’s not your fault.
You’re allowed a wobble.
You’re human.
Have your moment, then reset.
And keep going.
Good things are coming.
